#2. ‘I am worried about my health’: British holidaymakers fear heatwave in Europe

British holidaymakers aiming to travel to mainland Europe this summer are worried they are not going to be able to cope with temperatures that may exceed 40C, with some having to cancel their tourist plans.

Others already on holiday were having second thoughts. “We did this for a treat,” said one 61-year-old woman from London, who has gone on a cruise around the Mediterranean with her son before he heads to university. “We had booked excursions but by the looks of it we will stay on the boat the whole time because it will be too hot to do anything really

#3. ‘French icon’ actress Jane Birkin dies aged 76

The singer, actress and fashion icon Jane Birkin has died at the age of 76.
The English-French star was known for her personal and artistic relationship with songwriter Serge Gainsbourg, recording the iconic track « Je T’aime…moi non plus » with him.

The Global Partnership for Action on Gender-Based Online Harassment and Abuse (Global Partnership) brings together 12 countries, including the UK, with support from a multi-disciplinary advisory group.

It works to prioritise, understand, prevent, and address technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV).

#5. Sustainable smartphones calling? The eco-friendly new design rules to extend the life of your handset

The current status quo of smartphone design, repair and longevity could finally be upended in favour of users – and the planet. That is the message from campaign groups on the landmark overhaul of rules concerning batteries and eco-sensitive design working their way through the various legislative bodies of the European Union – a market big enough to force manufacturers to change, even if EU rules don’t directly apply to other regions.

MEPs voted on 14 June to accept new battery regulations, elements of which look to ensure cells in smartphones and gadgets can be replaced with parts available for five years after the device is discontinued. In many cases, the rules say, batteries should be user-replaceable “without requiring the use of specialised tools” and without the heat or solvents typically required to unglue components today.

#6. ‘Inevitable’ jobs will be more automated, says new AI adviser

Protecting British jobs will be a challenge as artificial intelligence systems become more advanced, the new head of the government’s AI taskforce has told the BBC.

Ian Hogarth said it was « inevitable » that more jobs would become increasingly automated. The whole world will have to rethink the way in which people work, he added. « There will be winners or losers on a global basis in terms of where the jobs are as a result of AI, » he said.
